Fans of Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games Trilogy will be pleased to hear that the film of the first book is already in the can, and that the trailer has just been released.
To be honest, there’s not much to go on so far – it’s mostly a lot of fast cutting between various scenes with not much in the way of dialogue – but it certainly looks quite slick and the production values seem high. Hopefully it will retain the grittiness of the original books and it won’t be too glossy and watered down for cinema audiences. Suzanne Collins worked on the adaptation herself, so chances are it will remain pretty close to the original book.
The cast also looks promising, with relative unknown Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, and familiar faces like Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland playing supporting roles. Oddly, Lenny Kravitz (the guitar player) is also in the mix somewhere, which should be entertaining…
The movie is scheduled for release at the end of March next year, so there’s still a few months to wait yet. The sequel Catching Fire has already been lined up for release in November 2013, which means that the studio is confident that the first film will live up to audience expectations.
